COMMUNISM

DANGER TO CIVILISATION AUSTRALIAN LEGISLATION [ AuPtralian Press \ssn. ] CANBERRA, May 19. In the House of Representatives, Mr William Hughes, resuming the debate amending the Arbitration Bill, described the provisions regarding strikes and lock-outs as the most dangerous piece of legislation conceivable. It was a sort of two-edged weapon, which would drive the unionists into one big union to safeguard themselves, against industrial and civil war. The Attorney-General must see that he could not imprison Thousands of men who defied the Government. The great danger to-day was Communism, deliberately working on the destruction of civilisation. They were equally enemies of the industrial union. The Government should set up machinery to deal with men like Mr Garden, as a surgeon cuts out cancer. Mr Hughes supported the Bill generally. The debate was adjourned.
