MAY McAVOY STARS AS MERRY COLLEEN

•‘IRISH HEARTS” AT THE MAJESTIC TO-NIGHT. In her portrayal of the rule of Patsy, in Warner Brothers’ production of “Irish Hearts,’’ directed by Byrun Haskin, May McAvoy, the star, is fulfilling n great ambition. Although one of the outstanding free-lance players of the screen, none of the roles offered Miss McAvoy during the last few years have enabled her to be what she really is, a whimsical, hoydenish Irish colleen. One of the things which led her to sign a longterm contract with Warner Brothers was this role of her heart *s desire, Patsy in “Irish Hearts.” “I have played so many reserved, bloodless young mirrors of perfection,” ■he declares. ‘*l want to do something that requires real acting, something with snap and character. 1 want to hold the centre of the stage, to command attention, little as 1 am. even if I have to throw Irish confetti to do it. There’ll be plenty of time to play ■ociety granddames and other proper persons when I get old.” Patsy is a lovable little immigrant battling for love and a livelihood in the wilds of Harlem, where the heart of the city beats fast. May McAvoy has her wish. She does hold the stage and commands attention, radiantly, lightingly, wistfully! She is supported by Jason Robards, Warner Richmond, Walter Perry, Kathleen Key, Walter Rodgers and Les Bates. “Irish Hearts’’ opens at the Majestic Theatre to-night for a run of three nights.
