BEYOND THE PALE
BACKBLOCKS TELEPHONES WAIMARINO HITCHES ON TO WANGANUI Seven or eight users of telephones in the Waimarino county have had their service linked with lines in the Wanganui district. But what matters iu connection with this point is that the Wanganui County Council has been paying maintenance on the branch obviously “beyond the Pale.”
Members of the Council realised this, when, at yesterday’s meeting, an account arrived from the Post and Telegraph Department for costs on the extended line. The meeting decided that the position was not a profitable one, and members considered that the matter should be attended to by the Waimarino district authorities. A motion by Mr T. Hine that 12 months’ notice be served the settlers outside the district that their service is to be discontinued from the Wanganui County’s lines was carried.
