THE ROMANTIC THEME OF A GAY STORY

HOT DOG PEDDLER AND ICE CBEAM MERCHANT

Owen Davis, America’s most prolific dramatist, who has contributed more than a hundred outstanding plays to the theatre, is the author of 44{Shamrock and the Rose,” the basis of the new Chadwick Pictures Corporation production, released- by Master Pictures which will be shown at the Majestic Theatre for three nights, commencing next Saturday. “Shamrock and the Rose,” a rollocking, romance of New York’s East Side, proved one of the most successful plays by the author of 44 The Nervous Wreck,” ‘‘lcebound,” and 4 ‘Opportunity.” Olive Hasbrouck and Edmund Burns, two popular young players, co-operate in the title roles, developing the romantic theme that is the basis of this gay story. Mack Swain, a stellar funmaker since his Keystone Comedy days, as “Hot Dog” Kelly, and William Krauss, as ‘‘lce Cream” Cohen, supply much of the humour. Maurice Costello, the first great screen star, Otto Lederer, Leon Holmes, Coy "Watson, Dot Farley and Rose Rosonova are amongst the others in the cast. The bitter rivalry between the hot dog peddler and the ice cream merchant provides a comedy theme that reaches its heights in the gang war that is

threatened by the followers of the two. These two old timers, however, had not figured on the whims of the younger generation, two of whose representatives arrived quite unexpectedly to settle the arguments in a most amazing and thoroughly amusing fashion. But how they did it would be spoiled for you in the picture, if one tried to tell you already.
