FATALITY AT STATION
MAN COMES IN CONTACT WITH LIVE RAIL William Mathers, of Railton Read, Herne Hill, was killed at Shor, lands Station as the result of a curious mishap. With Thomas Knight he was working of the line when the pick-axe of one of the men came in contact with the live rail. There was a flash, and both men startled, jumped aside, and were caught by an express on the up-line. They were both flung back on to the live rail, and Mathers' was picked up dead. Knight was taken to Beckenham Cottage Hospital suffering from sever© injuries received when the express struck him, and through coming in contact with the live rail.
