PANIC AT SWATOW
REDS ADVANCING PEASANTS’ RISING IN THE PROVINCES (A. & N.Z.) HONGKONG. March 28. Naval wireless reports from Swatow disclose a serious situation. By the defeat of Government troops by Communist forces, some troops have treacherously gone over to the Communists and the city is in a state of panic.
Reports from the neighbouring countryside tell of a Communist peasant uprising and the march of the peasants on the city, the fall of which is feared to be. imminent.
