U.S. OIL SCANDALS
TEAPOT DOME CASE LATE PRESIDENT HARDING’S ATTITUDE. (A. & N.Z.) WASHINGTON, Mar. 28. At El Paso, Mr Fall gave an interview in which he declared that the Teapot Dome lease eras the most financially advantageous deal ever made for the Government.
He reiterated his denials regarding the alleged bribes and suppression of news about the leases, and produced a copy of a message allegedly from President Harding, reading:—
I think it only fair to Say in this connection that the policy adopted by the Secretary of the Navy, Mr Denby, and the Secretary of the Interior, Mr Fall, dealing with the matter, was submitted, to me- prior to the adoption thereof, and the policy decided upon and all subsequent acts have at all times had my approval.
It is expected that Mr Fall, in his anticipated testimony before the Senate, will maintain that President Harding had complete knowledge of the situation.
