A PARTY.

[ Special “ Chronicle ” Service J A party of about thiry in number attended by invitation at Airs Willis’ residence in Bedford Street on Monday evening to celebrate the coming of age of Miss Alaudie Wilis. The interior of the house was tastefully decorated for the occasion and the guests on arrival wore received and welcomed by Miss Willis and her parents, Air and Airs R. Willis.

Games, singing and dancing were heartily enjoyed by all present and kept the guests busy until supper time, when a bountiful spread of refreshments was revealed. An attractive feature of the supper table was a large prettily decorated birthday cake on which were the Symbolical 21 candles, and before the toast of the evening “Swett Twenty-one” was proposed. Miss Willis extinguished the candles in due order. Air Willis, in response to the toast on behalf of his daughter, expressed the pleasure he felt at seeing so many present in honour of the occasion.

DOMAIN BOARD.

At a special meeting of the Patea Domain Board on Tuesday evening Air C. Adams, of Wanganui, was granted permission to use the training shed in the domain for skating purposes. Air Adams intends to run a skating class twice weekly for the winter months if sufficient inducement offers and the Domain Board’s attitude in granting the necessary permission will be. approved of by many lovers of this healthy winter pastime who have hitherto been denied their bit of sport on wheels through no building in the town being available for the purpose.

BOY SCOUTS.

A meeting of the Boy Scouts Committee was held on Monday night, Air J. Matthews presiding. Air Hemingway reported that his efforts to find someone to take over tho secretarial duties had so far been unavailing. Air Wainwright moved and Airs Moore seconded that Air Hemingway and the Rev. W. V. Martin be made joint secretaries.

Air Wainwright offered to make in quiries for tents for the Easter en campment.

It was decided to leave the matter of opening a Post Office Savings Bank account for the Troop in Air Hemingway’s hands.

The next Church Parade for the Scouts was arranged for Sunday, April

The Scoutmaster reported eight parades and one church parade for the month. Unhappily, since the last meeting one Scout, the late Scout Sedgman, had passed away. His passing was marked by the observance of one minute’s silence at the following parade. ° 1

He had not yet heard whether it was necessary for candidates to have a knowledge of the sounding machine before qualifying for the Signallers’ Badge. As several of the boys were now entitled to a “star,” he recommended that two dozen be obtained. Boys were now qualifying for first aid, signalling, and cycling badges. With regard to the Easter Camp at Alanaia, the cost would bo Is 6d a day and about 12 of the troop wanted to go. It was decided, through no officers being available to go to Alanaia, to hold a local camp, possibly at Air Huston’s farm at Kakaraniea, and that each boy be charged Is 3d a day. Air Hemingway and the Rev. W. P. Martin were appointed a visiting committee for the month. PERSONAL. Air J. I\tersen, the promising young Patea footballer, has further distinguished himself by the winning of a silver cup as one of the Okaiawa team which won tho seven-a-side football tournament held at .Stratford on Saturday. Aliss C. McKenna, who has been holiday-making in Sydney, returned to Patea on Alonday. Airs A. T. Christenson, who has been spending a few months in Wanganui, returned home on Alonday, accompanied by her son, Air C. Christensen.

Tho Mayor (Air P. B. Finlayson) re turned home on Saturday.

Air and Airs H. A. Findlay and family, who have been holiday-making in Auckland, returned home on Tuesday. Air J. Stewart, of New South Wales, revisted Patea on Tuesday after an absence of many years. r*-—l.-.—T'C
