OHAKUNE

MR. LEVICK AND MR. JOHANSEN FARE WELLED. [ Special “Chronicle” Service. ] Prior to the departure of Air Levick and Mr Johansen, of the railway stall', Ohakune Junction, to take up their new appointments, the officers and staff at the station met in the Traffic Alanager’s office on Tuesday afternoon to wish farewell to their comrades.

Air Maekley said they were getting used to such gatherings whore farewells had be taken of their coworkers. In the process their guests had been caught in the general move round and they were very sorry to lose them. Both had been in the district since 1924. Air Levick had been promoted to divisional clerk, Wellington, and Air Johansen to the post of stationmaster at Fordell. They had fulfilled their duties in a most satisfactory way, and he was pleased to know they were making progress in tho service. He hoped their new positions would be congenial to them. They were worthy of promotion as they were energetic and efficient officers. On behalf of the staff he had much pleasure in handing to Mr Levick a small gift as a token of tho esteem in which he was held, and he wished the men and their families every success and happiness in their new sphere.

Air Woodlock, on behalf of the R. 0.1., in the absence of Mr Doidge, chairman of the R. 0.1., said that he wished to apologise for Air Doidge’s unavoidable absence, and he wished on his behalf to express the sentiments of his colleague by mentioning the excellent services rendered by Air Johansen to the Alain Trunk branch of the R. 0.1. during his term as secretary of and delegate for the branch. Air Woodlock said he had known Air Johansen for about four years and during that time he had done wonders in his work for the R. 0.1. as secretary, and on behalf of Air Doidge and the staff he wished Air Johansen to accept a token of their esteem and goodwill. Air Colp said he was sorry Mr Levick and Air Johansen were leaving, for they had been a tower of strength in the office, and from a service point of view they would be greatly missed. Air Trask, in endorsing the previous speaker’s remarks, said/he had worked with these men for "about two and a-half years and they had always given of their best. He wished them and their families every success. Air Carroll said he also was very sorry they were leaving. However, it was to their advantage and was a step in the right direction. He had known them a considerable time and he had always found them excellent workmen and friends.

Air Brown and Mr Robson also endorsed the sentiments expressed by the previous speakers. Air Mack-ley, on behalf of the ladies of the Croquet Club, wished to thank Mr Levick and Air Johansen for the help they had given in the formation of the club’s green. They had done much good work and the club members were grateful to them for it. In welcoming the new officers, Air Maekely said he was sure their sojourn at Ohakune Junction would be pleasurable, and he hoped it would be to their personal advantage. In accepting the gifts, Air Levick and Air Johansen suitably replied. Air Levick was presented with a handsome fountain pen and Mr Johansen with a beautiful clock.

GENERAL NEWS

Mr F. Carroll has returned to town after his annual leave.

The friends of Mrs J. Beid will regret to hear that she was taken suddenly ill on Moniioy night and is still indisposed.

A telegram received yesterday states that there is no truth in the rumour that the I’okaka and Erua bushes are to be kept open. The men arc to be kept on till Saturday and if no further notification is received from headquarters, they will be paid off on that

The R-angataua School picnic was held on the Rangataua Recreation ground. There was a large attendance of parents and children. Rain somewhat spoilt the sports programme, but nevertheless several events were run off between the showers. Credit is djue to the following who assisted in the proceedings. Mesdames Fraser, Cosfond, Gardiner, Whale, Cunningham, Snowball and -Messrs Whale, Alurphy, Fenton and Shields.

A great many changes are taking place in the railway staff at Ohakune Junction. Several officers have received new appointments and their places have been filled by men from other centre..

Air J. Hollows, of Dunedin, who has been spending a few days in Ohakune left for home yesterday morning. Air J. Cosford returned from Karioi on Wednesday evening.

Miss E. ALarshall returned! on Monday evening after an enjoyable holiday at New Plymouth. Air R. Evetts of the P. and T. staff returned to duty on Tuesday morning after having spent his annual vacation with his parents at New Ply. .outh.
