AN UNFAIR HURDLE
STATE COMPETITION EQUAL CONDITIONS URGED The competition of State Depart ments and local bodies conflicting with private enterprise was dvalt witli in the following resolution passed last evening by the Wanganui Employers' Association:— That this association regards as grossly unfair public trading by State Departments and public bodies in competition with private enterprise, unless such trading is subject to the same taxation and other restrictions as is ordinarily imposed on private enterprise, and resolves that the Prime Aiinistor be respectfully requested to require not only that public trading departments shall be placed in the same position regarding taxation, rates. etc., as private enterprise engaged in similar trading, but also, that in respect of each trading department, there shall be published, a separate annual balance sheet, prepare*! on ordinary commercial lines, showing in detail the financial position of the department, including capital, depreciation and overhead charges, and the profit or loss on the year’s operations. It was decided to forwanl the resolution to the Prime Aiinistor (the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates).
