FIGHTING WITH MILLIONS. When the last English mail left there was every indication of a pending conflict between the two great silk firms, British Celanese, and Courtaulds. British Celanese recently issued 8 warning—amounting to a challenge—that it was impossible for others to manufacture cellulose acetate yarns without infringing its patents, and the company intended to protect its rights. Messrs Courtaulds have promptly accepted the challenge. Dy offering to indemnify their customers against all claims for alleged infringement bj reason of their dealing with yarns or other goods manufactured by Cour taulds. The shares of both concerns were af fected. Courtaulds are the world’.-, leading artificial silk manufacturers—a £20,000,000 company, whose shares have a valuation of over £100,000,000. British Celanese has share capital of abou £5,500,000 and loan capital of £4,000, 000. The present market valuation is about £25,000,000.
