MARTON

COURT LITTLE JOHN. A.O.F. TRIBUTE TO LATE BRO. J. ANDERSON. [ Special “Chronicle” Service. J At the quarterly meeting of the A.O.F. Lodge on Tuesday evening Bro. L. Mclndoe (secretary) in referring to the death of the late Bro. J. Anderson, P.C.R., stated that the deceased brother at his death was the oldest member of the Court, having been initiated in 1875, and for the past twenty years had carried out the duties of senior trustee, being associated with several different trustees during that period, viz., the late Bros. S. Gibbons and AValtcr Johnston, and Bros. E. Lloyd, A. Way and A. A. Alclndoc. He had been a regular attendant at Court meetings ami had taken a very keen interest in all Lodge work. As trustee he was very methodical in his book work and as a Forester kind-hearted and generous. In the early days he had carried on business as a blacksmith in Broadway, and was well-known throughout the Rangitikei district. For a number of years he was a member of the Alarton Borough Council and when it became necessary for him to undertake light duties he carried on as supervisor of the municipal swimming baths. Heart failure was tho cause of his peaceful end, and the brethren of the Court showed their esteem by assembling in strong force and paying their last respects to a worthy member of the Court.

The secretary’s remarks were endorsed by C.R. Bro. O. Brabyn and the secretary was instructed to forward a letter of condolence to his relatives. Bro. E. Fletcher was appointed trustee to fill the vacancy, and Bro. A. Al. Myers was elected J.B. for the ensuing term. The secretary stated that the Court was now prepared to take junior members at the rate of 5s a quarter, entitling them to sick' pay at 10s per week, or by paying 14s 6d per quarter they could obtain a free doctor and chemist.

The oldest member of the Court at present is Bro. E. Chase, of Crofton, who was transferred from a Court at Home to Court Little John in 1872, whilst Bro. A. Remnant, of Alarton, joined in 1574. MARTON LADIES’ GOLF CLUB. The annual general meeting of the Marton Ladies’ Golf Club will be held in the Alarton Jockey Club’s rooms on Friday, March 30, at 7.45 p.m. RICHARD DIX IN ‘‘MAN POWHR” “Man Power” is all that the name implies in the Richard Dix Paramount picture, which comes to the Alarton Town Hall on Saturday evening. It is said to be Dix at his best, in a fastmoving story, with suspense enough to keep audiences sitting on the edge of tho seats. The story works up to a tremendous climax when the star, driving a tractor through a rain storm, rushes up a hillside to save a dam threatened with a washout. There is action from start to finish and Director Clarence Badger is understood to have skilfully worked up his situations. CRICKET. POREWA v. BROADWAY.
