WAITOTARA
FOOTBALL. The annual general meeting was held in the supper room recently. There was a large attendance and the prospects for the coming season looked bright. The following officers were elected: —Patron, Mr W. Hurley; president, Mr J. Armstrong; secretary (Air M. Bublitz; treasurer, J. Armstrong; committee, Messrs C. Symes, A. Sloane, G. Simpson, W. Hartwell, J. Hurley, H. Hurley, AV. Baird, E. Gutteridge and AV. Dobbie. Air Armstrong moved that members’ subscriptions be ss, which must be paid before they are eligible for selection. This was carried. Messrs O. Symes and G. Simpson were appointed selectors. Messrs AV. Hurley and G. Simpson were elected delegates to the SubUnion. VALEDICTORY. A large and representative gathering of citizens met on Alonday evening, the occasion being a send-off to Air Harpur, the stationmaster, and Airs Harper and family, prior to their leaving for Alarton. The evening took the form of a social and dance.
Airs Alurphy presided at the piano, and songs were contributed by Messrs C. Gutteridge, AV. Nicholson, H. Baird. A recitation by Master Noel Tandall was well received. Accompaniments were played by Airs Sloane ad Aliss Amy Hurley.
During an interval Air AV. G. Belton, on behalf of the gathering, presented Air and Airs Harper with a travelling rug. and a sleeping doll for each of the children.
Air Harpur thanked all on behalf of himself and family for their presents and said he would always look back to the happy times spent in AVaitotara. Dancing was kept going till the early hours and the gathering dispersed with the singing of “Auld Lang-Syne.”
