WANGANUI TROTS

OPENING DAY TO-DAY RECORD ACCEPTANCES INTERESTING SPORT EXPECTED The flags will be flying at the Wanganui racecourse to-day for the commencement of the Wanganui Trotting Club’s annual two-day fixture.

The acceptances are a record, an* interesting lines of form can be obtained from the recent Wellington -and Thames meetings, where some of the horses to be out to-day were engaged. The course is in excellent order and the special investment facilities provided for lawn patrons should help to swell the crowd. The Garrison Band will be in attendance.

Welcome Pearl is now trained by P. H. Green, not R. Tapp, and so will not be bracketed with Indicator in the .first race. Indicator will be given No. 17 on the machine instead of 10a. Proceedings will commence at 11.45 with the INNOVATION HANDICAP. (Of 80 sovs; I*3 miles.)

Of the field of 18, most are maiden performers, and the winner v/ill not be easy to pic. Warplane has been well penalised following a recent win. but will no doubt carry a fair measure of mpporc. Peter Pirate, Great Ballin and Tawa King will perhaps catch the public fancy. Second on the list is the

KIRKWOOD HANDICAP. JOf 85 sovs; 1% miles.)

Of the ten, all of which are probable starters, Lady Ena and Jewel Wave, despite the extra distance they called on to cover, will find many Backers. Native Hero and Prince Audo have dropped out of the third race, leaving the following horses in the EASTBROOK HANDICAP. (Of 93 sovs; 1% miles.)

Of the 14. Warplane, if h n starts, will be well favoured, in view of his win at Thame*. Of the limit division, Queen Elizabeth may find some favour. The big event of the day is the WANGANUI CUP. (Of 150 sovs; two miles.)

The field of 16 promises a good ace. Kevin Brae and Tui Wildwood can be expected to carry a lot of money, but Explosion should not take long to wipe off the handicap set. Van Cap is another that will be watched with interest. The usually popular saddle event is the AUTUMN HANDICAP. (Of 100 sovs; one mile.)

Cora Tacks, among last year’s winner’s at this meeting, stands a fair chance of repeating the performance, ind Zolock Wood and Abrudbanya will not laclc support. The smallest field of the day will line up for the PRESIDENT’S HANDICAP. (Of 100 sovs; two miles.)

The Tiger and Mokanna are thought to have good chances, but Call Boy and Rebecca will not be neglected, and if Lady Ena is a starter she should carry her fair share of the money. The seventh race is FOSTER’S HANDICAP.

With several acceptors having previous engagements it is difficult to predict how things will ‘turn out. Louisiana. Ce Advanceur and Richmond Lass may be fancied. The final event on the card is the MORTON MEMORIAL HANDICAP.

Abundance having withdrawn. 17 are left in the race. Nellie Bramley and Vallamont will be well supported among the limit horses, and of the others Explosion, Admiral Lock and Our Patch can be depended on to make’the race interesting. Explosion has a previous acceptance, and so Admiral Lock and Our Patch may be the best fancied.

PIPE LOVER’S DISCOVERY “ During the two years that I have been a pipe smoker,” writes Mr Samuel Gaw. ”1 have used more than one—in fact more than ten —different tobaccos. I have paid fancy prices trying to find satisfaction but it waji all in vain. I had no other choice sc it seems but to return to he most satisfactory tobacco I have ever experienced. That tobacco is no other than Edgeworth. Now the pangs of dissatisfaction and grief over exorbitant prices have entirely disappeared since I’ve concentrated my pipe smoking on Edgeworth. Now I have a tobacco atisfies npe as well as man.”
