TAKING THE WORRY OUT OF HOUSEWORK

Don’t try and scour out that enamelled saucepan that you burnt the gravy in- Boil some strong soda and water in it, and the burnt patch will come off without injuring the enamel. Don’t throw away that other saucepan just because the handle is broken. Separate handles can be bought which only need clipping on.

Don’t be always scouring your enamelled bath with gritty scouring powders. A paraffin rag will remove the “high-water mark” just as easily, and a rinse-out with hot water will take away the smell-

Don’t let your geyser get so stained that you will need Brasso, or some such thing, to put it right. Keep it covered always with the thinnest coating of vaseline.

Don’t oil your sewing machine with thick, cloggy oil. Work some paraffin through first, clean thoroughly, then oil with proper machine oil. Don’t waste time trying to thread an ordinary needle if your eyes are bad. Use a fine darning-needle instead. It is much easier to thread, and has a long, fine point that sews smoothly.

Don’t waste gas by using a separate ring for each saucepan. Bring each pan to the boil, then keep them all boiling on one gas ring, with a hot plate over.
