This world-famous drama pictures the terrible consequences of vice and physical ruin that follows abuse of the moral law. It sheds a great awakening light on the humas race. It is a triumph of motion rcalism - KING’S THEATRE PICTURES If your constitution can stand an hour or so of hearty and almost continuous laughter, go to the King’s Theatre to-night and see “Painting the Town,” the feature picture. It is ideal film entertainment built around the adventures of a small town smart, Aleck and his adventures in New York. Also, it serves to introduce to the moving picture public a new comedy star in the person of Glenn Tryon. The leading la»y is Patsy Ruth Miller, and the picture is one of Universal’s foremost comedy productions of 1928. HUIA HOCKEY CLUB. The following report for the 1927 season was presented at the annual meeting of the Taihape Rugby SubUnion last evening, when the president (Mr J. Quirk) occupied the chair. The clubs affiliated with this SubUnion were as follows:—Senior: Hautapu, Pirates, Old Boys and Huias. Juniors: Hautapu, Pirates, Old Boys, Mangaweka, Utiku and Railway. In the third grade there were Mataroa, Hautapu, and Mangaweka. The knockout or one round competition was held at the commencement of the season and was won by the Hautapu Club. The senior competition was won by Pirates, the Junior by Hautapu, and the Third Grade by Hautapu. The Town and Country Cup was won by the Town team and the seven-a-side Cup by Old Boys. Rangitikei visited us on May 25, when we beat them 16 to 6. We met Wanganui at Taihape on July 23 and beat them by 12 to 11. We challenged Rangitikei for the Pownall Trophy, playing at Hunterville, and brought the trophy to Taihape. Rangitikei challenged us for the trophy and the game was played at Taihape. Messrs Rogers, Smith, Leahy, Kilkolly, Horton, W. Sinclair, E. Sinclair. W. McLennan and Beiliss represented Wanganui in inter-provincial matches and several of our players were chosen to play in the All Black trial games.

For the future the sole selector will be in attendance at all representative fixtures and we can be assured of better representation in provincial matches. There is one point that the committee wishes to recommend to the delegates chosen for the coining season ,and that is a better system of reimbursing players for expenses incurred in representative matches. Very considerable inconvenience was caused to players and the Sub-Union by the unwarranted delay in refunding these expenses during the last year. The secretary was put to considerable trouble before even a reply could he obtained from the Wanganui Rugby
