SEVERAL CHARGES LAID THEFTS AND BREAKING AT DUNEDIN 1 Per Press Absuclatiou. J DUNEDIN, March 26. Three youths—Richard Carter, Geo. Johnston Duucan and James Johnstone Youngson—were faceid with several charges at the Police Court this morning.

Carter aud Duncan were charged with attempting to break and enter the shop of Robert Storer by night on March 13, with intent to commit a crime, and with breaking aud entering the shop of A. G. Sherriif by night ou Alarch .13 stealing 7s, the property of Sherriff.

Carter, Duncan and Youngson were charged with attempting to break aud enter the shop of George Kitchen by night on December. 11 last with the intent to commit a crime.

Air C. J. White appeared for the accused, who pleaded guilty to mH the charges and were committed to tho Supreme Court for senteneo. Accused also pleaded guilty to a charge of the theft of goods of the value of £4, the property of persons unknown and were convicted and ordered to come up for sentence after they had been dealt with by tho Supreme Court on the previous charges. Bail was allowed to each accused in his own recognisance of £2O, on condition that he reported daily to tho police. Carter and a girl 20 years of age were then charged will) the theft of three blazers, valued at £4 17s 6>d, the property of Charles Wilson and others. Chief Detective Cameron said the youth spoke to the girl in George Street and they went to Woodhaugh Gardens. They entered the pavilion and took the blazers, which the girl took home. She became afraid and burned them so that her mother would not know. The youth and girl consumed some whisky in the pavilion. He thought the girl should be placed under supervision.

The charge against Carter was adjourned till he had been dealt with by the Supreme Court and the girl’s name w r as suppressed and her case held, over for a report.
