PASSING CATTLE

PEDESTRIANS’ IGNORANCE TREACHERY OF BULLS. Pedestrians on Heads Road about noon yesterday showed little respect for a mob of mixed cattle being driven to the works. Ignorance is bliss, and those who sauntered boldly past the placid looking bovines, probably thought that because the latter consisted for the most part of milking cows, who had seen better days, there was nothing to be feared. A few wary persons, however, were noticed to keep close to the fence, doubtless because they had decided to give a wide berth to the burly looking specimens of the male sox, who did not look too amiable. Perhaps there was not any danger in the present case, but to anyone who has been among cattle to any extent, it strikes him as odd the way townspeople so often regard these creatures with the same affection that they bestow on their sophisticated cat, lying by the fireside. A bull is a most treacherous animal, and the wise person will always treat him as such.
