A London cablegram states the Lord Chancellor, Viscount Cave, is in a critical condition after an operation. A Rome message reports the death of General Dias, who was Commander-in-Chicf of the Italian armies during the Great AVar. A London message states that Captain Edward Evans has been promoted Rear-Admiral. He is the youngest Rear-Admiral in the service and was the Navy’s youngest commander in 1912. Messrs B. S. Barham (Canada), arc guests al, Foster’s Hotel. To mark the occasion of his retirement from the business with which h* has been associated for the past 49 years, Mr H. Collier entertained his present and past employees at a dinner in Collier’s rooms on AVednesday evening. Mr Collier briefly traversed the progress of the firm, and presentations were made to the employees, some having 26 years service to their credit. Mr Herbert Collier has rendered invaluable services in the Orchestral Society and many other musical institutions, and it is to be hoped that even in his retirement he will continue the good work.
