NEWS OF THE DAY MAN WALKS INTO MOVING TEAM [ Per Press Association. ] ' DUNEDIN, Nov. 22. Yesterday afternoon Simpson Dunn, aged 65, walked into the side of a moving tram in Customhouse Square, sustaining serious injuries. He was removed to the hospital where he lies in a critical condition. THROWN TO GROUND, PILLION ‘ RIDER IS SERIOUSLY HURT | TE KUITI, Nov. 22. ' Last night Charles Gates, aged 21, when riding on a motorcycle pillion seat near Piopio, was thrown to the ground when the machine ran over a dog. The other man escaped with minor injuries. The injured man was brought to To 1 Kuiti hospital, where an X-ray examination disclosed that he had sustained a broken neck. He is still alive, but his condition is precarious, though the doctors believe there is hope of cryEXPRESS SMASHES INTO FURNITURE LORRY PUKEKOHE, Nov. 22. The Auckland-Thames express ran into a furniture-laden motor lorry at Buckland level-crossing at 10.57 this morning, William Austin Braithwaite, of Wire, near Manuwcra, being killed and his son, Lesie James Braithwaite, driver of the vehicle, being slightly in- • jured, ahd a man named Scott, who was ■ shifting to Harrisville, where he had acquired a farm, was seriously injured and taken to hospital. The lorry was badly smashed. TWO MEN INJURED BY EXPLOSION WELLINGTON, Nov. 22* The explosion of a tin of methylated spirits, near which they were working i with a lamp, resulted in George Jessen, aged 25, and Charles Stanton, aged 25, being badly burned at the Co-op. Dairy Producers’ Freezing Company’s buildj ing. Jessen was severely injured on. the head, arm, body and legs, and his condi- , tion is serious. It is understood that ho was to be married to-night. Stanton had his arms and head injured, but ' not seriously. MAN FOUND HANGING I ; PALMEESTON NOBTH, Nov. 22 ; Alfred Godfrey, an old age pensioner, 70 years of age, was found hanging m his whare in Napier Road at noon today. He had not been seen out since Saturday at midday.
