FAREWELL TO PASTOR WANGANUI EAST BAPTIST CHURCH At the Wanganui East Baptist Church on Monday evening, residents of the suburb, with a large representation of members from the Gonville, Ingestro Street and local Baptist Churches met in a happy gathering to i bid farewell and wish godspeed to the , Rev. and Mrs T. H- Eccersall and family, who leave cu Wednesday to take charge of the Baptist Church at OCahuhu. The meeting was presided over by Mr R l . B. Horsley, senr., associated with him on the platforip being the Rev. R. D. Steward, Mr H. Ivory (both of Wellington, and president and treasurer respectively of the- central district territory of the New Zealand Baptist Union), Rev. E. T. Cox (Trinity Methodist, representing the Ministers’ Association), Revs. R. Stewart (Gonville Baptist), H. Goring (Ingcstre Street). Bright and cheery words were spoken by all these gentlemen, eugolising the work of both Mr and Mrs Eccersall during their residence at Wanganui East. An apology for absence from Rev W. P. Lascelles, secretary of the New Zealand Baptist Union, was received, the chairman also apologising for the absence of Senior-Sergeant Lopdell. Musical items from Mr G. Carrad, Mrs Greenwood and Miss Springer, and recitations by Misses M. Shute, D. Buller and Mrs MacDonald, were pleasingly rendered. Mrs Wellington and Mr Moorwan ably presided at the organ.. The chairman, after speaking in appreciative terms, wished tho guests of the evening all success in their new sphere and handed to Mr Eccersall a handsome rug andj to Mrs Eccersall a dainty purse, with the good wishes of their Wanganui East friends. Both the recipients suitably responded- Mrs Eccersall earnestly bespoke the heartiest co-operation and welcome for Mr Wood, who would arrive on Friday to occupy the pulpit during the college vacation. At the conclusion of the programme those present spent a happy sociable time while refreshments were dispersed. WANGANUI CENTRAL W.C.T.U. The Wanganui Central W.C.T.U. held their monthly meeting in Trinity parlour on Monday, Mrs Stewart presiding. Mrs Irwin led the devotions. Final arrangements were made for tho Monday night tea for young people, with a view to forming a young people’s club and that meeting was held in the evening, Miss Bradshaw addressing the gathering. It was reported that a young people’s club had been formed at Waverley, also a Loyal Temperance Legion. It was also reported that 15 new members were joining up with the central branch from Fondjell.
