REPAIRING THE RUIN
NEV/ ENGLAND FLOODS PROGRESS OF RELIEF WORK (A. & N.Z.) NEW YORK, Nov. 8. With futher danger from the New work of relief and rehabilitation is progressing rapidly. Soldiers, Red Cross workers, and volunteers are caring for the refugees in temporary barracks. The situation generally has greatly improved, notwithstanding the snow and intense cold weather in some sections. Sufficient food and medical supplies have reached the centres where the suffering is most severe, and the danger of disease has been greatly lessened. It is impossible at present to compile a complete list of the dead, but 85 bodies have been identified, the ma* joity of whom were residents of Vermont.
An enormous acreage of land is under water, rendering many homes still inaccessible to rescuers with sup* plies, but the problem is now largely one of administration and reestablishment of lines of communication.
