A NEW MOVE
TO VICTORIA PARK CRICKET ASSOCIATION’S VENTURE. To the City Council last evening the Reserves Committee reported having received a deputation from the Wanganui Cricket Association (Messrs W. J. Treadwell, J. S. Barton, and Dr. U. G. Williams). The Association desired to meet the wishes of the Council in the endeavour to make Cook’s Gardens available for other sports, and to that end it was prepared to cease using Cook’s Gardens, provided it secure the exclusive use of the vacant portion of Victoria Park, which it is prepared to level and put in order for cricket, also to provide the necessary buildings and conveniences, and to plant the outskirts with shrubs. The Association would undertake to allow Soccer to played on Peat Park. The Committee recommended the Council to grant the Association the exclusive use. of the unused portion of Victoria Park on the following conditions:—That the Association will, at its own cost, lay out and maintain the cricket fields it requires, provide -and maintain pavilions and conveniences, and generally improve and plant the outskirts of the grounds. That tenancy be during the pleasure of the Council, free of rent and rates. The report was adopted.
