CLOSE VOTING SUTCLIFFE AS CAPTAIN. LORD HAWKE’S OPPOSITION. TEST FOR BRISBANE. (A. & N.Z.) LONDON, Nov. 3. It has been disclosed that choice of Sutcliffe’s captaincy of Yorkshire was carried by 13 votes to 11, the minority including Lord Hawke, who opposed restoring Sutcliffe to amateurism, a proposal which was defeated by 19 votes to 5. Hobbs has raised the question why Rhodes was not chosen, but Rhodes intimated that he did not want the captaincy. Already the suggestion has cropped up that Sutcliffe should captain England’s side in Australia in 1928. The Australian Board of Control has not yet advised the M.C.C. of its decision to play on© test in Brisbane. One of the highest authorities states that it is unlikely that the M.C.C. will object as feared in Australia.

The M.C.C. could, it is stated, safely leave Australia to arrange most advantageous terms for both countries.
