KIWITEA RABBIT BOARD
CHAIRMAN’S REPORT The chairman reported as follows at Wednesday’s meeting of the Kiwitca Rabbit Board:— “During last summer, in company with Inspector Dorward, I visited trie northern end of the Board’s area, and in most cases found that very satisfactory progress had be** made. In August last, partly wun Inspector Dorward and partly with Inspector Fraser, I went through most of the WaitunaTapuae and Rewa areas, which were at one time the worst infested parts, and was agreeably surprised at the clearance that had been made during the past year. Where raobits at one time might be counted by the hundred, only odd ones were now to be seen, and traces had largely disappeared. * ‘From a farmer’s point of view, the land itself bears a marked improvement in appearance and although it will be necessary to keep a close watch, I feel sure that with the continued cooperation of the settlers, it will not be long before the rabbit is almost a thing of the past. “Towards the end of last year, the Board suffered a severe loss through the death of its chairman (the late Mr A. P. Francis), a gentleman who worked hard and consistently in its interests from the time of its inception, and I feci sure you will agree that much of our progress is due to the untiring energy which ho displayed. “During the year we have been able to adjust our management, so that a saving of approximately £370 a year will be effected. “For the time that I have held office as your chairman, I wish to express my appreciation of the able and conscientious manner in which the Board’s officers have carried out tfierr duties, and to congratulate the great majority of the settlers for their whole-hearted cooperation. ”
