BRITAIN’S COAL
IMPORTANT PROPOSAL Owners May Co-operate to Regulate Output ELIMINATING LOSSES. .'By Telegraph—Far Press Assn.—Copyright.) (A. & N.Z.) LONDON, Nov. 2. The Daily News states that a most important factor has entered into the mining industry. The South Wales and Monmouthshire Coal Owners’ Committee, after an intensive study of the present ruthless competition resulting in heavy losses, had prepared a scheme of co-operative regulation of output. This is a complete abandonment of the mine owners’ etronghold, which has been disastrously defended against the attacks of economists, statesmen, and miners’ leaders. If the proposal is adopted South Wales will give the lead and other coalfields will be compelled to follow. The colliery firms will immediately consider the scheme, after which the Association will discuss the matter. The object is the regulating of the output according to demand, and bringing prices to a level preventing the present losses.
