A CHANCE MEETING

ECHO OF THE WAR VON SANDERS’ ESCAPE IN PALESTINE. (AJ>A.-Sua) LONDON, Nov. 2. The one man mainly responsible for the escape of General Von Sanders from the clutches of the Australian Light Horse, after the rout of the Turkish Army in Palestine, was his chauffeur, Tiecke. The fact was disclosed in a chance conversation at the Motor Cycle Show between the manager of an English firm, Mr C. Wilson, and a German agent. Mr Wilson remarked: “I was with the Air Force in Palestine during the war and once chased General Von Sanders’ car.”

Tiecke laughed: “Yes, we had to move fast. I was drivinig and kept to the narrow lanes. The Australians miss-■ cd us by the merest fraction. ’•
