PAKAPOO EXPENSIVE
FINES FOLLOW POLICE BAID. WELLINGTON, Aug. 13. To many white people the game of pakapoo is just as alluring as to the oriental mind, and there is more than one Chinese shop in Wellington in the back room of which a piece of flimsy paper marked with mysterious characters changes hands for sixpence or a shilling. There is the chance of a big prize for a very little investment, but sometimes bankers and players find the game more expensive than they expected. Such was the case to-day when Ah Young (aged 63) and Wong Koon (aged 23) were fined £25 each fur keeping a common gaming house, and Albert Andrews (43), Bernard Walter Parker (23), James Van Berssum (37), Arthur Waugh (49) and Ernest Began (44) who were found on the premises, were each fined £2.
