A debate in the Chamber on the subject of an order for the arrest of the Communist Deputy Doriot progressed in an atmosphere of tension, owing to the rumour that the Doriot would make a dramatic entry, but there was no appearance. Doriot was last heard of in Moscow He was sentenced, in his absence last year, to 18 months’ imprisonment on a charge of anti--militarist propaganda .'n connection with the war in Morocco. He still has the right of appeal. There is another prosecution pending for alleged treasonable conduct and speeches while on a visit to China. The debate followed the decision .»f M. Barthon that Doriot should be arrested immediately and returned to France, but was nullified by the announcement that Doriot had exercised the right of appeal. Further action was therefore suspended.
