THYE BEATS EDWARDS LONG-DRAWN TUSSLE Received .Tune 12, 5.5 p.m. MELBOURNE, June 12. Tn a wrestling bout, Thye defeated Edwards by one fall to none in eight rounds. CHAMPIONS AT TAIHAPE ANDERSON RETAINS TITLE. A wrestling match for the championship of the New Zealand, between Era. Anderson, of Palmerston North, holder of the title, and Charles Pollard, of Auckland, was held in the Town Hall, Taihape, on Saturday night. The contest was won in the seventh round of an eight round match by Anderson, who defeated Pollard by two falls to one. The champion turned the scales at 13.2, and the challenger at 12 stone. Anderson’s victory was due chiefly to the advantage in weight, strength, and experience. Pollard put up a great fight and his lighter weight was a great handicap to him. The first two rounds were fairly even. Three and a half minutes after the beginning of the third round, Anderson secured a fall, using his legs to get an arm scissors lock on his opponent. There was great excitement when a minute after the commencement of the third round, Pollard secured a fall by applying a side head lock. The seventh round was nearly over when Anderson, secured the deciding fall with a double wrist lock and a head, scissors hold. Mr W. McCombie, of Taihape, was referee in the absence of Mr. Ike Robin. In the amateur bouts J. Borwick beat F. Ireland; J. McMahon beat C. McMahon; and J. Siddle beat N. Condor.
