ANGLO-AMERICAN CLAIMS WARTIME SEIZURE OF SHIPS (Sun) WASHINGTON, May 20. The settlement of all claims between Britain and the United State* has been reached through an exchange of Notes. It is understood that the United States will receive the balance of about 1,500,000 dollars, including claims for the British seizure of American ships before the United States entered the war. The basic dispute regarding the right of Britain to make seizures was not settled. A formal announcement of the terms will be made within a few days. Under the new agreement Britain waives her claims and agreed to the sumission of the residium of Atnerican shipping and naval claims of about 1,500,000 dollars to British Courts, the United States promising to pay the American claimants the difference in cases in which the difference in to grant the full individual claims on both sides. Following on the announcement that a settlement had been reached on Am-erican-British war claims, political circles understand that the claims practically cancel each other. Figures which Senator Borah reckoned in millions have been reduced to below £300,000, and consequently no money will pass. The question of compensation will be a matter between subjects and their respective governments.
