DAMAGING A PILLAR BOX I From the “ Chronicle’s ” Special Correspondent. ] At the Police Court at Marton on Wednesday, before Afessrs R. E. Beckett, J.P., and F. R. H. Brice, J.P., Arthur Ellis was charged with wilfully damaging a Post Office pillar box on the corner of Bond Street and Broad w’ay by wrenching it off the post. Ellis, who is a farm labourer, was charged under the P. and T. Act and pleaded guilty and was fined £5 and £1 costs, in default 14 days’ gaol. USING OBSCENE LANGUAGE At the Afarton Court yesterday before Alessrs A. H. Bill and H. Y. Cameron (J.’sP.) Harry Dredge, a labourer, with several aliases was charged with having been drunk and disorderly and with having used obsence language within the hearing of the public. Accused pleaded guilty to both offences. A lengthy list of convictions, involving 20 charges, embracing theft, assault, drunkenness and uso of obsence language w’as recorded against accused. The Bench held the view that it was difficult to know how to deal with ac- 1 cused; the only safe place was gaol. Accused was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, and on the charge of drunkenness was convicted and discharged. A prohibition order was made to take effect on prisoner’s release. GENERAL NEWS The annual general meeting of members of the A. and P. Association will be held in the Coronation Hall, Marton, on Alonday evening. In addition to the presentation of the report and balance-sheet, election of. officers, the question of where the next show will bo held will be brought forward for discussion. The annual meeting of members of the Jockey Club will be held iu the Coronation Hall on Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock. The chief business will be the presentation of the annual report and balance sheet and the election of officers.
