GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY
UNEMPLOYED RELIEF WORK PROVIDED BY BOROUGHS. [Per Pre?* Association.' FEILDING, May 20. When the Hon. W. Downie Stewart was bore last week, the Mayor asked .that the Government should subsidise the funds provided for unemployment relief. A reply lias been received through Mr Gordon Elliott. M.P.. from the Minister, stating that Cabinet considered the request, and had agreed to give a subsidy subject to the work to be carried out being approved by the Minister of Public Works and subject to the conditions he may consider necessary. POSITION IN DUNEDIN SIG INCREASE IN REGISTRATIONS [Per Press Association.] DU NED IX. May 20. Unemployment in Dunedin is steadily increasing. On Monday ISS names (JOO married and S 5 single men) appeared on the Labour Department’s books, but the number had* increased to 245 to-day. 130 being married men ami 115 singie. The Trades Hall to day reported that no developments in the situation Were expected before Wednesday.
