WAIMARINO GOLF CLUB Fine weather accounted for the large attendance of members and visitors at the Makaranui links last Thursday. The president (Mr P. C. Murray) in opening the links for the season, said that this year the links were opened later than last year. This was on account of laying down greens, but ne was sure the new greens would more than compensate for the delay in starting the season’s play. During the summer, working bees had put in a lot of time on the links and had dono good work .improving the fairways and greens, and on behalf of the cluo he wished to thank them. During the season ho trusted that the members would take more interest in competitions and thus spread the troph ; es round.

After thanking those present for their attendance and wishing the players an enjoyable afternoon’s play. Mrs Murray teed off, and the links were declared open. During the afternoon a foursome was played, the captain’s team v. the president’s. Captain’s team mentioned first: Mr Lambic and Mrs Murray beat Mr Murray and Mrs Windle 5 up: Air Larsen and Miss Legge v. Dr. Feltham and Mrs Cody, all square; Air Marshall and Miss F. Bryers lost to Air Jefcoate and Afiss Lightband,. 2 down; Air Cottier and Afiss N. Bryers lost to Air Long and Afiss AVilliams. 1 down; Air Cody and Afrs Salmon v. Mr Ironside and* Mrs Broughton, all square; Air Fulton and Afiss L. Williams lost to Air Glasgow and Afrs R. Pearson, 1 down: ATr TJrwin and Afrs Drury v. Afr Kayser and Afiss Gower, all square; Air R. Long and Miss Roberts v. Afr Afurrell and Miss McDougall. all square; Afcssrs Davies and Windle beat Thompson and A. P. Smith, .1 up. Putting competition from 4 corners of the green was won by Afrs Windle in 7 strokes.
