HE PAID UP
CONDITION OF ACQUITTAL MAGISTRATE’S NOVEL ACTION-. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Alay 20. Air F. K. Hunt, S.M., adopted a novel method of meeting a difficult case at the Police Court, when Thomas George Alaxtcd camo up for sentence on a charge of stealing a trotting sulky, which he had removed from the trotting course, where it had been left by the owner for some time. “ Alaxtcd is a farrier, and a conviction would prevent him going on the course and involve the loss of his livelihood,” said his Worship. “The owner of the sulky was a good deal to blame for leaving it so long on the course.” Ho proposed to make Maxted lose something to remember the matter by. The charge would be dismissed on condition that Alaxted paid £5 to the Salvation Army for distribution in charity. “I’ve no right to do it,” added Air Hunt, “but still it will give him a chance.” Alaxted paid up immediately.
