PRIME MINISTER’S ADVICE THE PRESENT ECONOMIC DEPRESSION (Special to “Chronicle.”) AUCKLAND, May 20. “I may say that there should be a careful stocktaking of our own affairs,” said the Prime Alinister (the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates), addressing the Chamber of Commerce to-day.
There was no question that there was an economic depression, he said, but it lunl to be very carefully considered and no hasty or rash stops should be taken, as there was always the possibility of piling up trouble for the future.
“Let me say now,” said the Prime Minister, “that New Zealand is easily the host of all countries. New Zealand has been favoured with the best climatic conditions, and the conditions allow us to bo able to ship our primary products and compete with other countries of the world.”.
