MAD ARTIST’S CRIME

BROTHER SHOT DEAD. MILAN, May 1. Bologna has again been the scene of a terrible tragedy in*one or its leading families, in which two brothers were the actors and victims. They were Sergio and Giorgio Burzi, who lived with their mother in a palatial home, and whose father had died some time ago, leaving a large estate. The younger brother, Sergio, aged 24, developed great talent as an illustrating artist, and h’s work was much esteemed and sought after by publishers of artistic literary editions. Th<elder brother, Giorgio, aged 31, had considerable business talent, and the family was most prosperous. But the younger brother gace signs of mental trouble, and daily accused his elder brother unjustly of wanting to ruin the family. By the advice of their mother, the two brothers were yester day morning to divide their share of the family estate by mutual agreement before a notary, but before going to the notary’s office the younger brother in the morning had a short dispute with the elder brother, and fired five shots at him, killing him. He then calmly went back to bed and continued drawing figures as if nothing had hap pened When the police came, and whilst they were preparing to take away the body, the artist remained in bed quietly drawing the face of one of the two Carabinieri left to guard him; and when taken away to prison he casually inquired what had happened to his brother. He seemed unable to recall anything connected with the tragedy The grief of the mother was agonising when the body of one son was car ried out of the house whilst her other son, who had lost his reason, was taken to prison.
