CURES BY SUGGESTION

A DOCTOR’S VIEWS. A doctor stated at the City of London Coroner’s Court recently that he thought relatives {should be told when a patient was suffering from an incurable disease, but not the patient himself. He added that, if it -were possible to produce an effect without a ploying dangerous drugs, so much the better. “For instance.’’ he said, “sometimes p'lients receive bread pills, and when (hex believe that they contain morphia, iiiey are satisfied that the pills are doing them good." T’he coroner, Dr Waldo, sai'l: “Yes. ami they must have bright-coloured medicine with a bad smell like garlic, the stuff that cats like so much. The worse it is the more likely they are to think that it is doing them good." The doctor agreed, and smiled when Dr Waldo remarked. “Now you are going back to the hospital to dispense some more soap liniments.”
