SERIOUSLY INJURED
BOXER IN HOSPITAL SEQUEL TO A KNOCK-OUT [ Per Press Association.] NAPIER, May 18. Duke Maddox, of Hastings, drew with Harry Gunn of Timaru in a ten rounds boxing contest bore to-night. Maddox won most of the way and the decision was decidedly popular. In another ten round bout Tom Griffiths knocked out Roy Overend (Hastings) in the early stages of the last round. Though Griffiths held the upper hand all through Overend made a fight of it, and received an ovation when he was carried out of the ring. Overend is now in hospital in a serious condition.
