JURY’S AWARD SET ASIDE WEST COAST SAWMILL ACCIDENT [Per PreMs Association.] GREYMOUTH, May 18. Mr .Justice Adams gave his reserved decision in the compensation claim heard at the last sitting of the Supreme Court here in connection with the death of Peter Carmody, at Brown’s Creek sawmill. Inangahua, through a fiddling saw mishap. A claim was made for £3OOO compensation by the Public Trustee on behalf of deceased’s children, and the juryawarded £lOOO. Air C. S. Thomas (Christchurch), defendant’s counsel, raised a nonsuit point, which has now been decided in defendant’s favour, and the jury’s award set aside, on the ground that Carmody’s death was caused by his own action in working the saw without authority. tie.
