FIRE ON STORESHIP
RAKANOA AT WELLINGTON COAL BEING DISCHARGED [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON. May 18. An outbreak of fire on the hulk Rakanoa on Wednesday last was extinguished, but owing to the coal being wet it continued to heat, and a further outbreak was discovered on Sunday. The ship’s hose held the fire in check until four o’clock yestendjay morning, when the tug TcrawlUti towed the storeship to the wharf, where unloading into the Koromikio is proceeding. The hoses are kept playing. After the discharge is completed the Rakanoa is again to be used as a storeship.
