DOMINION SALES PRICES AT WANGANUI SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT SHOWN. The weekly Wanganui stock sale held yesterday by Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and Company attracted a fair attendance of the public. There was a medium entry of stock, and prices were slightly better than those received for last week’s offering. There was not a very big enquiry for lambs, and cattle were rather neglected. Passings were the goenral rule, but a considerable amount of private business was gone through after the sale. Some of the chief quotations were:— Sheep.—2-tooths in lamb Romney rams, 245; medium lambs, 9s Cd to Us lOd; s.m. ewes, in lamb to S.D. rams, 17s lOd. Cattle.—Fat cattle (double sale), £5; forward cows, £4 2s 6d; 20-months steers £2 ss; poor conditioned bullocks, £5 7s 6d. Pigs.— A. fair demand. SHEEP DEARER AGAIN THE BURNSIDE SALE. LAMBS ALSO IN DEMAND. (Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN, May 18. Prices for good quality sheep showed a further advance at Burnside to-day. The market opened with prices for heavy sheep about Is in advance of last week’s prices. Sheep.—There was a medium sized penning of 1929 head. The proportion of good heavy sheep was very small, the bulk of the entry being comprised of ewes of fair to medium quality. On the whole heavy sheep were 3s a head dearer than they were last week, and medium weights Is 6d. During the last three weeks (including to-day’s sales) heavy sheep prices have risen fully 10s a head, and during the same period lighter prime animals have bettered in value fully 4s. Prices were: A few special extra heavy prime weths. ers to 50s 3d; extra prime heavy t<s 425; prime 34s to 365; medium 28s to 30s; extra prime heavy ewes to 325; prime 25s to 28s; medium 18s to 225; light from 14s. Lambs.—A penning of 859, consisting of very good quality animals. The proportion of inferior sorts was small. Competition was keen and prices were from par to Is ahead of last week’s rates. Extra prime heavies sold to 295; prime 25s to 275; medium 22s to 245; small and inferior from 15s. Eat Cattle.—-A yarding of 257, on the whole of poor quality. A good proportion of the entry was comprised of medium steers and cows. Except for prime bullocks prices were about on a par with last sales. Prime bullocks were from 10s to 15s up. Prices: Prime bullocks £l4 to £l5; medium £lO 15s to £l3; unfinished and light bullocks £6 to £9 10s; prime cows and heifers £7 10s to £9; medium £5 10s to £6 10s; light and unfinished £4 to £5.

Store Cattle.—A full yarding of 410 head. The entry was of mixed sorts, the biggest proportion being cows. Some six pens of three to four-year-old good steers realised from £7 10s to £8 10s a head, and other classes were from 5s to 10s a head easier. A line of station, heifers sold at from £5 5s to £6 12s each. Pigs. —A penning of 112 fats and 30 stores. The fat pig market was erratic and rates were a shade easier. Store pigs were unchanged. HEAVY ENTRIES THE ADDINGTON MARKET. FAT LAMBS AND FORWARD WETHERS IN DEMAND. [Per Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, May 18. Heavy entries were the rule to-day at Addington. The tendency, except for fat lambs, forward wethers and the best beef, was towards easier values. Store Sheep.—A heavy entry for this time of the year. Ewe hoggets and fine woolled wethers sold well. Other classes were Packer than last week. Forward wether lambs made 14s 6d to 15s, ordinary wether lambs 12s to 13s 6d, cull to inferior lambs 8s to Ils, halfbred ewe lambs 22s 6d to 245, inferior halfbred ewe lambs 16s lid to 17s 6d, 4,6, and 8-tooth halfbred ewes 21s 9d to 22s 7d; s.m. halfbred ewes 17s 7d to 19s 6d, 4, 6 and 8-tooth crossbred ewes 19s to 20s 6d, sound and failing-mouthed crossbred ewes 17s 6d to 18s, aged ewes 4s 6d to Us, 2-th. halfbred wethers 15s 9d to 19s, forward 4 and 6-tooth halfbred wethers 20s 3d to 225. Fat Lambs —In all 2600 were penned, and there was a brisk sale at export values, which, during the week, have been raised a farthing per lb all round. Best up to 36’s made ner lb. The top price was 31s Id. The bulk of the lambs averaged from 25s to 27s 6d.

Fat Sheep.—A heavy entry and easier values than last week by a shilling a head. Extra prime wethers made up to 34s 7d, prime wethers 27s to 30s, medium wethers 24s 6d to 26s 9d, light wethers 22s to 245, extra prime ewes 26s to 29s lOd, prime ewes 20s to 24< 6d, medium ewes 16s 6d to 19s 6d, light ewes 14s to 16es, aged ewes 11s to 13s. Fat Cattle.—A penning of 550, mostly cows of medium to indifferent quality. The small proportion of good beef sold at from 29s to 32s per lOOlbs, rough to medium from 20s to 27s 6d. Prime heavy-weight steers made £l6 12s 6d, extra prime medium weight steers £l3 j 10s to £l5, prime medium weight steers£l2 to £l3 ’s, medium quality steers £8 to £ll 10s, light steers £6 to £7 15s, ‘ extra prime heifers to £l2 12s 6d, prime

heifers £8 to £lO, ordinary heifers £6 to £7 15s, light heifers £4 to £5 15s, extra prime cows to £l2 2s 6d, prime cows £7 5s to £9, medium cows £4 5s to £7, aged cows £3 10s to £4 2s 6d. Vealers.—An average yarding. Best calves fetched from £5 to £6 7s 6d. Store Cows.—Mostly cows and bulls were entered, the best of the former making from £3 to £3 15s. Dairy Cattle.—Dairy cattle were easier, the best second to fourth calvers making £8 10s to £l2 10s, medium £6 to £B, best heifers £7 10s to £l2. Fat Pigs.—Porkers were easier, whilst baconers sold at late rates. Choppers made £3 to £7, baconers £3 7s 6J to £4 12s (average per lb, ssd to &Jd); porkers, 40s to 55s (average per lb, 5d to 7}d). Store Pigs.—Lower prices ruled ail round by 5s a head. Weaners made 9s to 13s 6d, slips 16s to 21s, stores 24s to 36s 6d, extra large to 42s 6d. LATE RATES MAINTAINED THE WESTFIELD SALE. VALUES GENERALLY :<TRM. (Per Press Association.! AUCKLAND, May 18. At the Westfield stock sale there was a good yarding of beef, there being little or no change in values. Extra choice ox sold to £1 6s per lOOlbs, choice and prime £1 4s to £1 ss, just killable £1 Is to £1 3s, prime young cows and heifer beef £1 Is to £1 4s, just killable 18s to £l.

Sheep.—An average yarding, values being very firm at late quotations. A pen of extra prime wethers made £1 9s 6d, heavy prime wethers £1 9s 6d, medium £1 5s 6d to £1 7s, light and unfinished £1 to £1 2s 6d, heavy prime ewes £1 0s 3d, lighter 16s 6d to 18s 6d. Lambs.—An average yarding, selling at late quotations. Heavy prime lanb made £1 3s 6d to £1 4s 6d, medium £1 Is 6d to £1 3s, light 19s to £1 Is. Calves.—A small yarding whicho said under good competition at improved pricey. Runners made £2 8s to £3 15s, heavy vealers £2 11s to £3 10s, medium £2 to £3 10s, light £1 11s to £1 17s, rough 10s to £l, small fresh-dropp Jd 3s to 10s.

Pigs.—An average yarding, values being firm at last week's prices. Choppers made £3 to £3 12s, heavy baconers £3 10s to £3 15s, medium baconers £3 5s to £3 Bs, light baconers £3 to £3 4s, heavy porkers £2 6s to £2 12s, light porkers £2 2s to £2 ss.
