SUPREME COURT

YESTERDAY’S SESSION SERIOUS CHARGES Before his Honour Mr Justice Ostler at the Wanganui Supreme Court yesterday, Thomas Boylan, aged 60, was found guilty of indeecntly assaulting a male, and was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment with hard labour. Mr W. H. Cunningham represented the Crown, and Mr V. B. Willis appeared for the accused. A Plea of Guilty. Harold Cathcrall was charged with unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under 16 years of age and with indecent assault. Mr E. B. Tustin appeared for the prisoner, who pleaded guilty. His Honour said it was a difficult problem to deal with a case such as this. Had the prisoner been a younger man his Honour would have admitted him to probation, but he was 27 years of age, and the law laid down that a man over 21 who committed this offence did so at his own risk. However, the accused’s plea of guilty showed contrition and a sentence of six months’ imprisonment would be ini posed. Divorces Granted. William Stanley Moule (Mr J. M. Hussey) petitioned for a dissolution of his marriage with Elizabeth Moule, on the grounds of adultery, William Harrod being cited as co-respondent. The petitioner, a bushman, of Ohakune, said he married defendant in 1922. Witness gave evidence in support of his suit, which was corroborated by Arthur Joyce. His Honour granted a decre nisi, to be moved absolute in three months, with costs on the lower scale against co-respondent. A decre absolute was granted Limy Maud Edith Emma Lclievre (Mr G. W. Currie) in her petition against William Jules Francois Lelicvre, and the petitioner was granted custody of the children. In Bankruptcy. Discharges from bankruptcy were granted to Louis Rayner Bernard, farmer, of Ractihi (Mr G. W. Currie); and Ralph Brown and James Logie, farmers, of Kai Iwi (Mr W. H. Cunningham).
