• CONFERENCE AT LEVIN CONCLUDING BUSINESS. [Per Press Association.] LEVIN, May 18. The interprovincial conference of the Farmers’ Union concluded to-day. Amongst other decisions arrived at were the following: — That the Government be asked to place country towns on the same footing as seaports by reducing railway freights on imported timber to ordinary timber rates. That, where practicable, the control of noxious weeds be placed in the hands of the Rabbit Board. That all manufactured articles, including produce exported, be legibly marked “Made in New Zealand,’’ and that the abbreviation “N.Z.” be discontinued. That a substantial reduction should bo made in woolbroking charges. That the conference was of opinion that many trading and financial institu-. tions were realising undue profits and that the provisions of the Commercial Trusts Act be more actively enforced. That the Associated Banks be asked to explain why they have increased the burdens of the primary producers by raising the price of money at a time when, owing to the low price of farm products, farmers arc experiencing great difficulty in meeting financial i obligations. Election of Officers.
The following were re-elected: Provincial presidents —Wellington, Mr K. W. Dalrymple (Bulls); Wairarapa, Mr C. C. Jackson (Masterton); Manawatu, Mr O. P. Lynch (Waikanae); Wanganui, Mr T. Currie (Brunswick).
After the conference closed the delegates visited the Central Development Farm and other places of interest in the district.
