INJURED PLAYERS

PROVISION OF CARS RUGBY UNION NOT RESPONSIBLE Any doubts which may be be in the minds of Rugby supporters as to who is responsible for the provision of conveyances for taking injured players to their homes or the hospital, will be cleared away as a result of a discussion at last evening’s meeting of the Wanganui Sub-Union. It was clearly indicated that the responsibility rested with the clubs and not the Sub-Union. The question arose when Air F. Gurney, secretary of the Queen’s Park Club, came before the Sub-Union to explain behaviour shown by him last Saturday when he accosted the treasurer of the Sub-Union, Air F. J. Burton, and asked, “what about a car for this injured player?” Air Burton informed Air Gurney that that, the Union did not supply cars for injured players, whereupon the latter remarked that if the player concerned were a senior, there would be a car forthcoming.

Air Burton said he personally did not object to Gurney’s manner of address, but he did' object to his broadcasting a statement that the Union would not supply a car for a injured player. It was bringing the Union into disrepute. Father Alahoncy who was ‘in the chair, explained that the Union was not responsible for the provision of cars for injured players. That was a matter for the clubs. Air P. Wilson: Did your club get a car for this player? Afr Gurney said that the player had to walk home. He had a broken collarbone. Alembers of the Union said that last year a certain taxi driver had placed his car at the disposal of the injured players free of charge. That taxi driver was now not in Wanganui. After further consideration of the matter it was stated that Afr Gurney had apparently been under a misaprehension as to who was responsible for provision of cars, and concerning his manner of address to the treasurer, a vote of censure was passed.
