A SHABBY ACT
RETURN FOR HOSPITALITY STOLE FROM HIS HOSTS. With prospects of a night out in the open spaces Heke Pohama was fortunate when he met Arthur Hodson and Tom Tiaroa, who gave the stranger a bed in their whare in the Wangaehu valley. But Hekc’s repayment for the hospitality was to commit thefts when his hosts’ backs wore turned, and for this action he earned the severe censure of Mr J. S. Bartori, S.M., and the decision of the Wanganui Magistrate’s Court that he should be given free board and lodging in one of his Majesty’s prisons for a month with hard labour for the accompanying period. The cash and goods stolen were £1 from Arthur Hodson, and £2. 15s and clothes to the total value of £4 19s 6d from Tom Tiaroa. Accused, who had the stolen articles and 30s in his possession when arrested, admitted the thefts.
