JAPANESE ACTIVITY State of Emergency Proclaimed at Hankow SEARCHLIGHTS DISPEL DARKNESS [By Telegraph—Per Press Assn.—Copyright.] (A. & N. Z.) SHANGHAI, May 15. There is noticeable activity among the Japanese regarding the Yangtszo situation. A state of emergency has been dcclarcid by the Japanese Concession at Hankow. Marines have been landed and field guns and machine guns are placed on the boundaries, the searchlights from the warships playing in all directions nightly. Latest reports state that General Chiang Kai Shek has launched an offensive against the North and crossed, from Nanking towards Pukow with a large force, who arc attacking the Shantungese.
