SANDON

WEDDING. [ From the “ Chronicle’s ” Special Correayondent. ] The Methodist Church at Sanson was the scene of a very pretty wedding one recenj Thursday evening, the contracting parties being Olive May, daughter of Mrs and the late Richard Bowater, of Sanson, and John, son of Mrs and the late John Currie, of Palmerston North. The Rev. W. S. Neal was the officiating clergyman. Mrs James Bowater taunt of’ the bride) presided at the organ. The bride, who was given away by Mr H. Gardiner, of Eltham, (an old friend of the family) was charmingly attired in a frock of beaded white georgette over shell pink, with a veil and coronet of orange blossoms, and carried a bouquet of Madonna Lillies, begonia blossom and maiden hair fern, and was attended by her cousin (Miss Alexandra McNab) and her neice (Miss Phylis Williams). The former wore a frock of pink crepe-de-chine, elaborately trimmed with gold lace, a coronet of gold leaves and pink roses, and carried a bouquet of pink roses, begonias and maiden hair fern. The latter’s frock was of blue crepe-de-chine, trimmed with silver, a coronet of silver leaves and forget-me-nots, and carried a bouquet of blue, delphiniums and maiden hair fern. All of the bouquets were a present from the bride’s uncle (Mr James McNab). The bridegroom was attended by Mr D. O. Stewart and Mr Mervyn Bowater as best

man and groomsman. The bridegroom’s present to the bride was a gold wristlet watch, and to the bridesmaids gold armlets. The bride’s present to the bridegroom was a travelling rug. After the ceremony the happy couple left by car en route for Auckland. The bride travelled in a dress of bois-de-rose, with hat and fur en suit. TE KAWAU RUGBY SUB-UNION. Competition games were continued on Saturday and resulted as follows: — Senior. Huia Mai 6, v. Awahuri 5. Oroua Downs 9 v. Central 5. Junior. Awahuri 6 v. Hui Mai nil. Thirds. Hui Mai 6 v. Central 6. The local senior team met Awahuri on the latter’s ground and after a last even game were able to secure a win by 6 points to 5. A try scored by I*. Nicol and a penalty goal kicked by K. Bailey to 5. a converted try. Mr J. Hughes was in control. The Juniors met Awahuri on the home ground, and playing with only J 2 men, put up a solid defence and were beaten by 6 points to nil. Mr A. Vile controlled the game. The thirds travelled to Rongotea and the game ended 6 all. A penalty goal and a try scored by Ken Pearce to two tries. Mr T. Goodwin carried the whistle. Minor injuries were responsible for the absence of several players on Saturday and with full teams in the field the games would have probably ended with three wins for the local team. The first round of the Senior competition is finished, and the championship points are aS follows:—Hui Mai 4, Central 4, Oroua Downs 4, Awahuri nil. Awahuri have been playing with hard luck and might easily have earned three wins instead of three losses. They have crossed their opponents’ line in each game, have only had their own line crossed once, and have yet sustained three defeats. Which must be nearly a record. The competitions have, so far, been very even and at the present time it is hard to prelict the ultimate winners. The newly formed club (Huia) at Ranglotu seem to have an excellent chance of winning the junior competition. Coming Fixtures. Fixtures have been arranged as follows: Senior. Second Round.—May 21: Awahuri v. Hui Mai, at Sandon; Oroua Downs v. Central, at Rongotea. May 28: Oroua Downs v. Awahuri, at Awahuri; Central v. Huia Mai, at Sandon. June 4: Hui Mai v.
