GENERAL NEWS At Marton Court yesterday morning before Messrs H. Y. Cameron, J.P., and D. Ingle, J.P., two first offending inebriates were convicted and fined 10s, one also being the subject of a prohibition order.

Mr and Mrs A. S. Coleman, of Cliff Line, Marton, left for Auckland by motor car yesterday and travel via New Plymouth and Te Kuiti for a month’s holiday. On Friday evening a very successful ball was held in the Tutaenui Social Hall, which was artistically decorated for the occasion. An orchestra conducted by Mr A_ S. Crozier, of Marton, supplied the dance music and extras were played by Misses Craven, Jenkins, and Boobyer, and Mr Coles. The ladies provided a dainty supper and the committee in charge attended to the visitors. A dance will be held ii» Runnymede Shed on Thursday evening. Olive Borden has the featured feminine role. MARTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE The Chamber met on Monday evening, Mr F. R. H. Brice presiding over a good attendance. Mr W. L. Aynsley was appointed secretary. An enquiry is to be made as to the delay in sorting the evening mails at the Post Office, and also as to the delay into getting into telephone communication with Wanganui. A communication from the Minister of Agriculture with reference to noxious weeds is to be forwarded to the Marton Borough Council. Messrs K. A. Williams, J. S. Bush and A. M. Gordon were elected members.
