PILGRIMS TO MECCA

BRITAIN AND THE HEDJAZ NEW TREATY NEGOTIATIONS LONDON, April 20. Negotiations are pending for a new and important treaty between the British Government and that of Ibn Saud, Sultan of Nejd and King of the Hedjaz. The negotiations are expected to deal, among other issues, with the regulation of the pilgrimage to the Holy Places by British Moslems, the reorganisation of the telegraph services, and the port dues at Jeddah. Some difficulty may be. experienced in connection with the maintenance of jtho right long enjoyed by the British [Consul to set free any slave who has sought asylum at the Consulate. The British Government will insist on the I maintenance of this right, as incumbent upon a member of the League of Nations, who is naturally intent on the abolition of slavery as an institution.
